1. Meta descriptions MUST include keywords:

2. Meta keywords aren't that important, but they still count:

A few years ago, Google admitted that it changed it's algorithm so that meta keywords have zero value for indexing purposes.  Other popular search engines have followed suit; however, there is still some value in using keywords.  For example, Bing asserted that, although keyword meta tags are not a high priority for ranking, they still have some influence.

3. The URL is more important than most tags:

4. Don't forget header tags: 

Header tags are prioritized in a hierarchical system (H1, H2, H3 and so on).  The main header (H1) is imperative for search engine indexing.  Make sure this header includes the target keywords.

Other headers (H2, H3 and so on) serve as subtitle headings and minor headings.  They are still important, especially for the readability of your content, but not as important as the H1 heading.

5. Use alt=”” tags for videos and images: 

People underestimate the influence of and often forget to use alt tags.  Alt tags tell search engines what an image and video features and are very important tools for indexing.
