How to Increase Website Traffic: 5 Big No-No’s

How to Increase Website Traffic: 5 Big No-No’s

Welcome to Tips for Writing SEO Content, an unsponsored blog that provides genuine, no-fluff information to help SEOs of all levels, from beginners to the most experienced.  Now more than ever, writing quality content is imperative.  In this post, you will important info about how to increase website traffic and what NOT to do.

1. Posting Irrelevant Links

A few years ago, SEOs were posting links on every forum and blog they could lay their hands on.  Today, this is a black-hat practice that could get you de-indexed by all of the popular search engines.  There’s more importance in authenticity and quality content.  Link to websites in your industry and trusted directories.

2. Posting Useless or Copied Content

Useless content won’t work anymore.  Repeat visits and high turnover are incredibly important when it comes to search engine ranking.  Find out what your audience wants to know and what isn’t already on the internet.  Edit your content meticulously.  Use Copysape or other plagiarism software to ensure authenticity.

3. Ignoring Social Media

Social media is an important element in SEO, especially with the highly advanced search engine algorithms of today’s World Wide Web.  In my opinion, the three most important to incorporate are Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.  Others like Digg and Delicious can also be useful.

4. Keyword Stuffing

Like irrelevant links, keyword stuffing is another outdated black-hat practice.  It’s always important to use keywords in certain areas of a website or blog, like in the tags (title, header, alt, meta description) and in the body, but don’t throw in 15 keywords in a 200-word article.

5. Anchor Word Overuse

There’s some interesting statistics that surfaced after the new Penguin algorithm (Google) de-indexed several websites.  One of these statistics is that several websites that use the same keyword anchor text a ridiculous number of times in a ridiculous number of URL addresses got de-indexed.  Google is leading the charge against page rankers, or in other words, leading the charge towards quality content.  That’s where your focus should be; worry less about SEO techniques, make sure you get the basis covered and make sure your content is authentic and useful.

How to Increase Web Traffic: 5 Ways to Attract Your Audience

Welcome to Tips for Writing SEO Content, an unsponsored blog that provides genuine, no-fluff information to help SEOs of all levels, from beginners to the most experienced.  Now more than ever, writing quality content is imperative.  In this post, you will important info about how to increase website traffic.

1. Use Social Networking Websites

Social networking sites are a free way to network with your audience.  They’re also a good way to learn about your audience.  What are their likes?  Their dislikes?  How engaged is our audience in social media?  But most of all, creating an information network that incorporates your webpage and sites like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn is a great way to establish “authority,” which matters when it comes to search engine indexing.

2. Links, Links and More Links

Links have always been and will always be important.  Link with companies in the same industry and link with respected directories in your industry.  DO NOT post links on random websites that have nothing to do with your website.  This practice can cause your website to become de-indexed.

3. Put Yourself Out There

Don’t just post links and use social networking websites.  If you really want to get your webpage going and earn authority in a certain field, you need to get yourself out there.  Call businesses and tell them what content you are publishing.  Contact members of your audience and do the same.  Get people talking and be ready to talk with people.

4. Be Unique, But Useful

Original content is an absolute must.  It’s also important to create a webpage that stands out, one that people will make people return.  But always keep in mind that the usefulness of your content is what will make or break your success on the internet.

5. Keep People Engaged

Make your site user-friendly and provide information in demand.  Make your site aesthetically pleasing.  This can lead to return visits and a better turnover ratio, both of which will positively affect your page rank.

Steps for SEO: 5 Important Steps for New Websites

Steps for SEO: 5 Important Steps for New Websites

Welcome to Tips for Writing SEO Content, an unsponsored blog that provides genuine, no-fluff information to help SEOs of all levels, from beginners to the most experienced.  Now more than ever, writing quality content is imperative.  In this post, you will 5 important steps for SEO that should be executed for new websites.

1. Add Keywords to Your Pages

Although the keyword meta tag is no longer a top priority for the most popular search engines, keywords themselves are the most important part of getting indexed.  Know your audience and know what they are looking for.  What are they typing into search engines?

Make sure your links are not too board, which can prevent your webpage from earning a high rank.  On the other end, you don’t want them so specific that no one’s searching for them.  The best idea is to provide good content and write keywords that are specific enough so your audience can find that content.

2. Add Tags to Your Website

The three most important tags are the title tag, the meta description tag and the header tag(s).  These are referenced by every popular search engine to determine what your page is all about.  Make sure they are formatted properly and contain your keywords.

3. Get Your Website Indexed

The easiest way to do this is through freewebsubmission.com.  It’s easy to use, free and gets your site indexed by all of the popular search engines, end even some of the not-so-popular ones.

4. Develop a Blog

Blogging is an excellent way to increase traffic and link with related pages.  Blogging also allows you to publish useful content that may not fit properly on your webpage.  As authentic, useful content becomes more and more important, so will blogging.

5. Link With Businesses in the Same Industry

There’s really no point in linking with forums, blogs and businesses that don’t relate to your website.  In the past, this was a popular black-hat (not good) SEO technique.  But now, search engine algorithms are smarter.  If you link with respected webpages in your industry, it can help tremendously.  If you post links willy-nilly, you may get penalized or even de-indexed by Google.

2. Spammers Will be Spanked

How Do Search Engines Work: 5 Important Lessons

How Do Search Engines Work: 5 Important Lessons

Welcome to Tips for Writing SEO Content, an unsponsored blog that provides genuine, no-fluff information to help SEOs of all levels, from beginners to the most experienced.  Now more than ever, writing quality content is imperative.  In this post, you will 5 important lessons about how do search engines work.

1. A Short History of Search Engines

Today, search engine algorithms are much more advanced and complicated than they were back in the 1980s; however, they operate under the same principle—help people find files quickly.  Several decades ago, programs like Archie and Veronica helped people find internet files.  They were breakthroughs in their day, but now, the only search engines that receive substantial volume are those on the World Wide Web.

2. Robots, or Spiders, Crawl Your Page

Spiders construct keyword lists that help search engines organize information.  This is known as Web crawling.  These lists are always being adjusted and added to.

3. Frequently Visited Pages are the First Indexed

A spider usually beings crawling the Web on high-traffic pages and servers.  The logic is, if a page receives more hits, the information is probably more useful and is therefore more important.

4. Search Engine Spiders Crawl FAST

Search engines like Google use several spiders, as many as four, and can keep more than 300 Web connections open at once.  The Google system can analyze more than 100 pages each second.

5. Different Search Engines Work Differently

While Google analyzes pages for word patterns, locations of words and tags, others, like AltaVista, index every word, including articles like "a" and "an."  Although this provides a more “complete” analysis of a webpage, most web designers have a thorough knowledge of tags and therefore make this approach insignificant.

Increase Business Traffic Online: 5 Ways to Attract an Audience

Increase Business Traffic Online: 5 Ways to Attract YOUR Audience

Welcome to Tips for Writing SEO Content, an unsponsored blog that provides genuine, no-fluff information to help SEOs of all levels, from beginners to the most experienced.  Now more than ever, writing quality content is imperative.  In this post, you will learn some tips about how to increase business traffic online.

1. Know Your Audience

What does your audience want?  What information do they demand?  What questions do they have?  These are all important things to consider before you develop a strategy to attract an audience.  You need to know who they are, where they are and what forums and blogs they use.  All of your content needs to be developed and formatted in a way that appeals to them.  The diction you use, the keywords you target and the ideas you present need to be conformed to the demographics you are targetting.

2. Produce Original, No-Fluff Material

Copyscape is a good tool to ensure your material is original.  By "no-fluff" we mean be objective and to-the-point.  Most people don't want to read long blocks of text; they already know what they're looking for.  Organize your research, present the most important facts first and stay on topic.

3. Link to APPROPRIATE forums, blogs and directories

We can't stress the word "appropriate" enough, especially since new search engine algorithms penalize webpages for leaving bad links.  Find out which blogs, forums and directories attract your audience and provide useful information.  Try to get these webpages to link to your page and you will notice dramatic results in your page rnak.

4. Keep Them Coming

The highest-ranked pages are often those that enjoy repeat visitors and high turnover.  A good way to accomplish this is by providing original content or presenting content in a usr-friendly fashion.

5. Study Your Website's Statistics

Google Analytics is a great software for this.  It's free and easy to use.  The idea, when you want to increase business traffic online, is to look for patterns.  What pages are being viewed most frequently?  What is your bounce rate?  Who is your audience?  All of these questions can be answered with a good analytic software.

Online Marketing SEO: 5 Tips that Work

Online Marketing SEO: 5 Tips that Work

Welcome to Tips for Writing SEO Content, an unsponsored blog that provides genuine, no-fluff information to help SEOs of all levels, from beginners to the most experienced.  Now more than ever, writing quality content is imperative.  In this post, we will discuss online marketing SEO.

1. Know your audience:

Knowing your audience is necessary in order to provide useful content.  It can also help you understand where to publish backlinks.  Google now penalizes SEOs who post backlinks in irrelevant forums that never get clicked.  The days of the Indian SEO firms are gone.  Know your audience, learn what content they demand and plan your marketing strategy around that knowledge.

2. Produce useful content on blogs to attract your audience:

A lot of people are saying "the days of SEO are dead."  That statements holds some truth. But it's not SEO that's dead, it's misleading online marketing SEO experts who try to manipulate online users. So, how can you attract guests through blogs?  Simple, publish useful content.

For example, let's say you are a personal injury lawyer.  What would your audience find useful?  Maybe you could develop and publish a blog that describes how to find the right lawyer, or a blog that discusses the steps of a personal injury lawsuit.  It requires some work, a lot more work than going on random forums and leaving links, but this is how SEO is going to take place during the years to come.

3. Use keywords in URLs:

There are hundreds of ways to improve the search engine capabilities of a website, but one of the most frequently overlooked is the root URL.  Purchasing a URL that incorporates your keywords is a great way to improve search engine rankings.

4. Link with legitimate businesses in your industry:

Since unrelated forum links can cause penalties, stick with businesses in your industry that have established webpages.  This can do wonders for online marketing SEO.

5. Get listed in trusted directories:

There are several trusted directories for every industry.  The Better Business Bureau is a good one and there are others that are particular to individual industries.  Do some research and get your page linked to these lists.
